November is one of the busiest months on the winery marketing calendar.
Holiday offers. Gift sets. Shipping deadlines. Large formats. Black Friday. Cyber Monday. Events. Corporate gifting.
There are plenty of reasons to ask customers to buy.
But before the holiday sales season takes over the inbox, there may be something more important to say:
Thank you.
Gratitude Is Part of the Relationship
Wine is an unusually personal business.
Customers don't simply purchase a product. They visit our properties, join our clubs, attend our dinners, follow vintages from bud break to bottle, introduce our wines to friends, and open them for some of life's most important occasions.
For small-production wineries especially, those relationships matter enormously.
So tell them.
Thank your members for their loyalty. Your customers for making the trip to wine country. Your restaurant and retail partners for putting your wines on their tables and shelves. Your vineyard and cellar teams for another vintage. Your vendors, neighbors and community for being part of the story.
And consider doing it without asking for anything in return.
Not Every Email Needs a Buy Button
We're marketers. Of course we want communications to perform.
But performance isn't always measured by immediate revenue.
Sometimes the purpose of an email is simply to make someone feel good about their relationship with your brand.
A heartfelt Thanksgiving message from the family, winemaker or vineyard team can remind customers that there are real people behind the bottles arriving on their doorstep.
Keep it simple. Make it personal. Use a photograph that feels genuine rather than promotional.
And resist the temptation to add an offer at the bottom.
There will be plenty of opportunities to sell wine in December.
Give Thanks Before You Give an Offer
The strongest luxury brands understand that relationships aren't built exclusively through transactions.
They're built through consistency, hospitality, shared experiences—and appreciation.
This November, make room in the marketing calendar for a message without an agenda.
No discount. No deadline. No allocation.
Just gratitude.
It might be the most important message you send all month.
